the areas around the battlefields are filled with cemeteries. Some are small, consisting of only a few simple wooden or stone crosses. Some cemeteries defy belief, with rows of crosses reaching as far as the eye can see.

The Third Battle of Ieper (Be) started on the 31st of July, 1917 and ended the 1st of December 1917.
In these months the Allies (Great Britain, Australia,Nw Zealand, Canada and South Africa) suffered 448.000 casualties. The opposing German troops suffered 260.000 casualties.
